The Jayting Game: Final Recap & Fallout

I believe in omens. This is a microcosm.


Before I say anything, let me extend my sincerest thank you's to Sarah, LJ, Joanna, Erin M, Erin Z and Giana. When I came up with the idea for this it was mainly a "Wouldn't it be funny if?", but the responses I got from these ladies blew my mind and forced me to actually follow through with a plan, which is an extreme rarity for me. Each and every single one of the girls I went on a Jayte with was wonderful company. All polite, intelligent, entertaining, and just fun to be around. I could not have possibly thought it would go as smoothly as it all did and I count this experience among the highlights of my 2010 calendar year.

As I'm sure you noticed, it took me months to write updates about dates I went on after about mid-September. I am here to explain why.

It all started at a Jays game that was in no way intended to be a Jayte. It was supposed to be just a meetup of the greatest minds of the Jays twitterati, but instead my thoughts were immediately stolen by how absolutely stunned I was by the girl I was sitting beside. An intelligent, beautiful, charming, blonde, that had a tendency to say what I was thinking before I got a chance to say it. I was, to put it mildly: Quite impressed.

A pretty common theme throughout the Jayting game was how easily moved I am by things that can be taken to mean more than face value and assigning them 'omen' status. Another theme was how terrible I am at acquiring foul balls. Well, this particular fan meetup happened to be during fan appreciation day. During a break in the action, the JayForce came to our section and I had a ball tossed softly right at me. Naturally, I caught it.

Maybe I didn't get the significance of it at the time, but that moment is the perfect microcosm for me. After trying so hard to organize things and look cool and set up a perfect date had only resulted in me ducking out of the way at the last minute, someone came along and handed me exactly what I was looking for at a speed that I could totally handle. I kept that ball, and I still have it.

After that day, it just seemed impossible to write about going on a date with different girls. I tried, a couple of times, but I always found myself giving up and figuring that no one would miss the fact that I had totally abandoned the series I was so excited to start.

So why write them now?  Well, number one is that the girls that went on the Jaytes that I suddenly became too confused to write about signed up for the Jayting game for fun and to have the story published and I felt like a jerk for leaving them all hanging. They deserved better. Number two is for the readers, spearheaded by my Father of all people, telling me that the series needed closure. Finally, for me. I need to close this series because I need to close this blog. This site began as a place for me to satisfy the part of me that was yearning to write and produce and because of it and the reaction I've gotten from some of the readers, I became inspired to give writing and producing my own material a shot outside of the anonymous safety of the internet. I would like to thank absolutely everyone that has ever read or commented or shared a link to anything I've ever written. It has meant more to me than you can possibly imagine.
